At PBS we know that the world of cladding can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. That is why we have prepared a list of basic terminology so you don’t get scared of future roofing projects.

1.     Bargeboard

It refers to the material or board that protects the ends of your roof from weather exposure.

2.     Fascia

The fascia is the long thin band running under your roof’s edge – read here.   They are available in a range of finishes, colours and designs.

3.     Soffit

The soffit is the surface between the siding on your house and the roofing.  it sizes varies from  several centimetres to 1 meter or more, depending of the style your house has.

4.  Cladding

Cladding, is the layer that covers and weather proofs exterior and interior structures. It can be made in wood (which is the less durable option) or in PVC

4.1  PVC cladding: is when the material of the cladding is made from  Poly(vinyl chloride.) It is flexible, durable and very resistant to weather, fire and insect damage. It comes in a wide range of colours and types.  PVC cladding is effective and it looks great.

5.  Eaves

The eaves are the edges of the roof which overhang the face of a wall, their main function is to keep rain water off the walls. The eaves may also protect a pathway around the building from the rain, preventing the erosion of the footings, and also reducing splatter on the wall from rain as it hits the ground. They can be highly decorated  as part of an architectural style

We hope this will  help you get started on some roofing vocabulary, which  may help you feel more confident about your next cladding and roofline project.  Whatever you decide, at PBS we are here to help you
