Cladding refers to the external layer of the building which provides the aesthetic effect. Apart from the external appearance of the building, the main use is to protect the building structure from the weather and helps with the property insulation especially for replacing attic insulation. Traditionally timber cladding was the way to go, but nowadays, the availability of PVCu materials is taking over, as it offers low maintenance material and an interesting alternative to timber.
External cladding planks should be installed horizontally so that rain flows down the face of the wall, placing the planks vertically will possibly increase the amount of moisture penetration as water will flow down and through the joints. There should be at least a 25mm (1 inch) gap to ensure that there is air circulation to avoid that moisture getting trapped between the cladding and the wall. This should be taken in consideration when insulation is needed, as the majority of insulation materials will need to go behind the vapour barrier membrane.
PVCu Cladding offers similar appearance to timber products but is generally thinner as PVCu can be easily moulded. PVCu is easier to work than timber because planks are identical, you will not find the knots or twists that you can get in timber. In general, PVCu is very easy to maintain, as a good wash every now and then will keep it looking fresh for years.
At PBS we offer different types of PVCu Cladding:
Ship-lap is moulded PVCu with a shaped front face. The profile of the shiplap cladding is placed so that the bottom edge of each plank, overlaps the top edge of the plank below, which causes any rain to run down the front face of the wall without finding its way behind the planks. At PBS we offer a 15omm Shiplap Cladding in various colours such as: white, blackgrain, mahogany, rosewood and golden oak
100mm Open ‘V’ tongue and groove cladding can be used to create a variety of visually appealing effects in horizontal, diagonal or vertical arrangements. Having the groove fitted over the tongue of the plank below keeps the rain from entering the wall. Fixing through the tongue conceals the fixings. At PBS we offer 100mm Open ‘V’ tongue and groove cladding in different colours like: white, golden oak, blackgrain, rosewood and mahogany
At PBS we offer different types of Cladding so they adapt in the best possible way to your needs.
